Leadership
Led from the front.
A chartered surveyor, an access to justice pioneer, and a property developer. Three perspectives, one structure.
Co-founder and Director
A chartered surveyor who lives in one narrow corner of property law and knows it better than most. Joshua has run strategy on thousands of rights of light claims: what the analysis will show, how hard to press, when a claim is strong enough to hold out and when the offer on the table is the right one. He sets the standard a claim has to meet before Daylight Protect will run it, and he carries the risk on every claim that clears it. That judgement is why owners get paid properly rather than quickly.
Co-founder and Director
Twenty five years on one problem: people with a real legal claim who can't afford to bring it. He co-founded Accident Advice Helpline in 2000 and helped build the funding and insurance model that let ordinary claimants take on insurers without risking their homes. He has chaired the Claims Standards Council and the Access to Justice Action Group, and sat on the Ministry of Justice Regulatory Consultative Group, so he has spent as long on how these models should be regulated as on running one. Rights of light is the same problem in a different sector: a legal right most owners can't afford to enforce, held against parties who can.
Daniel Berko
Director, Development Risk
A property developer, which is exactly why he's on the board. Every claim ends on a developer's desk, where someone prices the exposure and decides whether to settle or fight. Daniel has been that person. He tells the board how a scheme is appraised, at what point a rights of light claim genuinely threatens funding or programme, and what a developer will pay to make it go away.
What stands behind every position.
